Sensible Weight Loss Whilst Breast Feeding

Many women have a hard time losing weight post pregnancy, but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

"I've always believed if it took you 9 months to gain it, give yourself 9 months to get rid of it"

Have NO high expectations of this quick weight loss diets and fads, as it could be detrimental to your health and of your child's. Enjoy the time you have with no worry or hassles in the first few weeks as this time is best spent bonding with your new baby, and for you to recover mentally and physically after the birth.

Breastfeeding is the most natural and healthy way of nourishing your new baby. A mother's breast milk provides sufficient nutrients and a certain amount of antibodies from the mother that may help the baby to resist infections.

A mother has to eat double the amount of calories per day to sustain a high quality supply of breast milk. But don't let that fool you into eating whatever is in sight. By simply making sure that you remain well nourished by eating a healthy diet, gentle exercise and eating small snacks regularly and at least drinking 2 litres of water a day.

These things combined have shown to assist in gradual weight loss whilst providing an adequate supply of quality breast milk for your baby.

Breast milk is the primary source of food for a baby up until the age of 6mths that's when the infants iron stores are starting to run low. This is when solids are slowly introduced.

During this 6 month period and beyond, breastfeeding has many health benefits for the mother. One being the closeness that a mother and baby feel while feeding, the calming effect it has on him/her and the retracting of the mother's uterus, back to post pregnancy size.

For many mothers breastfeeding along with a healthy diet is the perfect combination for steady weight loss.

Breastfeeding places a great demand on mother's blood sugar supply and if the diet is not adequate in complex carbohydrate foods, sugar cravings and extreme hunger may occur.

By eating 3 healthy small portioned meals a day with snacks in between you will be soon on your way to a slimmer you. Eating every two to three hours helps maintain a good blood sugar supply and controls hunger.

Some simple suggestions for snack foods are:

Full Fat Yoghurt's Lots of fresh fruit & vegetables Rice crackers and cheeses At least 2 litres of water per day

Foods to avoid when the cravings attack are:

Refined foods i.e. fast foods Low fat foods (not giving you the calories to supply quality milk) Sweet biscuit, cakes Soft drinks, coffee & cordials

Don't expect the weight to just drop off, it takes time we all know that, but by following these basic steps you will be heading in the right direction to a slimmer you.

Need To Lose Love Handles Fast?

Do you want to lose love handles fast? Follow the simple instructions given here. You probably know by now that love handles are the accumulation of excess fat around your abdomen. It occurs due to a sedentary lifestyle in a genetically predisposed person. It is not that each and every obese person will eventually develop love handle. Those are genetically prone (have similar history in their family members) to having a pot belly. There are several options available to help you lose love handles fast.

Exercise is one of them- the next best thing you can do is undergo a surgical procedure (but remember there are risks).

As with other weight loss regimens, reducing love handles requires three basic steps. These are - Balanced diet (most of the calorie should come from protein and carbohydrate, avoid foods that give you empty calories like alcohol, and fast foods), general aerobic exercise that will take care of fat burning and your heart condition too, and lastly exercises that focus on toning your abdominal muscles.

Exercise 1

Lie down on you back on a smooth, flat surface. Keep your arms beside your body. Now lift your legs up as far as you can. Be careful; do not bend your knees. Lift about 2 feet from the ground. Hold the position for 5 seconds. Then slowly put them down again. Do the same procedure again. Start with 5 reps initially. You can gradually increase the reps.

Exercise 2

Again, lie down on the same surface on your stomach. Try to lift your legs from the ground. Do not bend your knees. Lift your legs for about 1- 1 feet from the ground. Hold there for 5 seconds. Gradually drop your legs. Do 5 reps in a single sitting.

Exercise 3

Lie down on your back. Keep your feet straight in the air. Cross your hands over your chest. Try to bring your elbows to your knees by flexing the abdomen. If you have a history of low back in jury, do not go for this exercise.

A combination of diet, exercise and the right amount of sleep habits are the answer to losing love handles fast. The role of regular exercise is insurmountable in achieving the goal. If you don't change your eating habits, drink enough water, and get the right kind of exercise your efforts will be for not. You have to combine diet and exercise to get the right results.

The best way to lose love handles is with a balanced diet and some good stomach exercises.

Ive been exercising regularly for most of my life so Ive had plenty of those days. To get me through, Ive compiled a list of tactics to help motivate me.


Read something inspiring!
It could be a biography, quote, poem, or song. Use other peoples experiences to give you that lift.

Start a walking group!
It's more social and you all get to feed off the motivation of each other.

Think of exercise as a menu rather than a diet!
Make a list of activities and choose 1 each day.

Use a training journal!
By keeping track of your activities you can see the improvements in your fitness week to week.

Start an interest or hobby that requires physical fitness!
It could be bushwalking, rock-climbing, tennis, golf, or scuba-diving. If you require physical fitness to enjoy the activity you will be more inclined to train for it.

Increase your incidental activity!
This is the amount of activity you do in your normal course of your day, the activity not generally classed as exercise. You could: walk to work, take the stairs instead of the elevator, get up to change the channels instead of using the remote, or play with the kids for 15 minutes per day.

Try cross-training!
If your exercise program is always the same then break it up with one session per week of swimming, bike riding, jogging, sprints, or circuits. You could even play a different sport and use it as a training session.

Use a personal trainer!
Personal trainers can provide motivation as well as training variety.

Use an exercise video!
If exercising in public places is not for you, then try training at home. There are many forms of training available on video including: boxing, aerobics, pilates, and yoga.

Just start!
You will always be able to find excuses not to train so don't think about it, just walk out the door.

Listen to music!
Put on the stereo or use a walk-man. Music certainly helps the time go faster.

Watch TV!
Most fitness centers currently have a cardio theatre where you watch your favorite shows whilst you work out.

Read about the benefits of exercise!
We all know that exercise is good for us but do you know why it is? Reading a reputable publication on exercise can inform you of the great ways exercise can improve your life. It's more than just being able to walk up those stairs!

Don't complicate things, make it simple!
You don't have to find a fitness centre or join a Tai Chi group. Just find a nice park and go for a walk or run.

Create a list of reasons you want to be healthy and read it regularly
It may be to improve health, play with the kids, or trek through India. Whatever the reasons write them down.
