5. Decreased Activity. When people get older they accumulate injuries and conditions that consequently force them to exercise less and at a reduced intensity.

What can be done about a slowing metabolism to lose weight?

1. Eat less. Reduce your calories by 100-200 per day. This will offset the 5% decrease in your resting metabolic rate.

2. Eat food that digests quickly. The last thing you want, is food sitting inside you all day. Remember, the quicker food digests, the less fat is stored. Eat a lot of vegetables, fruits and yogurt. Eat more protein and reduce carbohydrates. If you have a drink with your dinner start by reducing alcoholic intake by half a glass a night. You can still enjoy some wine but a slight reduction will make a huge difference over time.

3. Change your lifestyle. Walk more. Instead of sitting with friends while you talk, walk and talk instead. Take your kids indoor rock climbing instead of to the movies. Shop out of the house instead of online. Or even try biking to work. Basically just accumulate more activity in to your daily routine. All of those burned calories add up!

4. Lift Weights. This is so important. I always recommend this to everybody no matter what age. Lifting weights will speed your metabolism. I can't say that about anything else with 100% certainty. Lifting weights doesn't mean being muscular. It means being toned, with strong bones and more energy. To start, lift a weight that is heavy enough to preform 12-15 reps with. If you go higher than 21 reps, get heavier weights.

5. Change your workout. New routines always shocks the body in to change. Trying something new is fun and effective. If you walk, try cycling. If you run, try a yoga classes for runners. If you want an intense workout but your joints can't take it, try swimming.

Many people have started exercising after 40 and have seen amazing results. Some go on to compete in fitness competitions and competitive athletic events. Being over 40 doesn't mean the end of your fitness journey! Just take it a step at a time and change your lifestyle habits to work with a new resting metabolic rate.

How To Lose Belly Fat In Only 10 Minutes

I have been doing this for years folks. One of the most common questions I get at the gym while I'm training someone is "How Do I Lose Belly Fat"? It's simple I tell them and it really is. You just have to be consistent. That is the key to anything you do in life. It's called ambition. Let's start:

Minutes 1-5

1. Interval training. This is a process which keeps your metabolism high and makes it higher. You can apply this method to any aerobic workout. One example is walking. Let's say you walk for 10 seconds, you run for 20 seconds. Repeat this over and over until you are satisfied. Those 10 seconds of walking in between the runs give you a chance to "rest", therefore letting the body regroup itself and get used to the idea of running. It's great for your metabolism.

Minute 6

2. Sit-ups! The key to having a slimmer looking belly is excersizing your mid-section. You want to work those abdominal muscles. Do 10 regular sit-ups, 10 side-to-side situps, and 10 sit-ups with your feet off the ground. Do this every day and you can have that six-pack you've always dreamed of!

Minute 7

3. Push-ups. I don't think I need to explain this one. Just remember to keep your body straight and off the ground.

Minutes 8-10

4. Jump rope! Sounds like fun? It really is once you get going. When you're jumping, think about your fat just falling off. Your belly is getting smaller. Have this mentality, it is great and once you see results, it is an excellent feeling.

Lose Weight by Drinking More

Am I mad? Do the alcohol companies pay my salary?

Sorry, all you budding Homer Simpson's out there, I don't mean lose weight by drinking more alcohol. I'm talking about drinking more Adam's ale - also known as water.

Yes, you can lose weight faster by drinking water. It should be an intuitive thing to drink water, really, but so many of us will reach for a fizzy soda just bursting with stuff you can't pronounce. Here's a little tip for you: if your mouth can't pronounce the name of the stuff, you probably shouldn't be putting it into your mouth in the first place!

So what's the real skinny on this miracle drink?

First, the human body is made up of a significant percentage of water. Estimates vary, but something like 70% or so of your body is water. Just keeping yourself well hydrated, 'topped up' if you will, helps you boost your overall health. And good health is important in keeping a good, fat-burning metabolism.

Water is also used to 'flush out' the toxins and garbage that accumulates in your body cells. Have you ever caught the odor from a household garbage bin that hasn't been emptied for a while? Would you like that going on inside of you? Part of the garbage that accumulates in your cells is fat deposits and flushing them away is a no-brainer. Don't overlook the importance of keeping your kidneys clean and efficient - they need water to work well.

You also need water to help eliminate other waste. If you are well hydrated you'll be able to eliminate waste more efficiently, completely and easily. And the faster you eliminate waste matter the better because you don't want your body storing it.

There are lots of myths about how much water you need and the oldest one of all is probably the 8 glasses a day myth. How much you need depends on your body size and composition, your level of activity and the climate where you live. There really isn't a one size fits all solution so you'll have to discover what works for your individual circumstances.

Another big plus if you're well hydrated by drinking sufficient water is that you are naturally likely to eat less food. Many times you might think you're hungry when in fact you're actually thirsty. That's more common than people realize. Popping the top on a cold one, or having a soda doesn't count as hydration, either!

Generally speaking, if you're well hydrated, you're likely to experience better energy levels and less hunger. Seriously, you'll find you're less hungry if you keep yourself hydrated. Just don't try to take your daily water consumption all in one go. You should be drinking water throughout the day.

Why not commit to ditching sodas and other man-made drinks for a week? At the end of the week have a soda and just notice how you feel after you've drunk it. You won't feel light and energetic the way you would when you drink water. You're likely to feel lethargic and leaden.

Your body knows what's good for it - you just have to give it the support it needs. If you don't think you can stick to drinking water for a week. you may need to consider how to increase your motivation and perseverance.

There are several techniques you can use that will help you to increase your motivation and perseverance.

The majority of your body is water. Do it a favor and replenish its supply with drinking water regularly.
